but they are rich in their way
they got lots of knowlegde which is valuable for them
they know how to irrgation so they can get food more easily which is really valuable
remember, since mayan are really known for lots gold

The Mayans unlike the Egyptians left no Rosetta stone. And unlike the Aztecs there was no contact between their civilization and the conquering Europians.

Yet they have deciphered most of the Mayan script. How?

These are an important resource in the interpretation of Maya hieroglyphics. The Maya also learned in the sixteenth century to record their own languages using Roman letters, and later Maya works do not feature hieroglyphic writing, but a phonetic rendering of Maya languages in Roman script.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Mexico and I am trying to figure out if we can stay at a beautiful resort like in Cancun or Puerto Vallarta and still take day trips to see the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, Tulum, and either Ek’Balam or Oxmal. I know you can take a tour to go to chichen itza from any cancun resort, but I can’t figure out if you can do the same for the other ruins. Are they within just a few hours driving time? If anyone has been to any of the ruins in Mexico or Brazil please tell me about your experience and if you know about staying in the resort towns and being able to go to different ruins each day. Thanks!

As wkevinc pointed out, this Mayan calendar supposedly predicted the alignment of the sun, moon, earth, and center of the Milky Way. The Mayans didn’t have a clue about the center of the Milky Way. Sure, they could see the soft band of light across the sky, but they didn’t have the foggiest notion what it was. So where did this galactic reference come from? Certainly not the Mayans.
I’ve looked up the data. The sun passes close to the galactic center on that date, but it follows that same track every year. The earth, sun, and galactic center are never in good alignment. Also, the moon is nowhere near in alignment with the sun or the galactic center (w/re to the earth) on that date.
Yes, I knew this was all bunk, but I was curious where this notion about the galactic center came from.
Stephanie, we *are* in the Milky Way galaxy. Better check your source. The Sagittarius arm is the nearest major spiral arm to our solar system. We are in the Orion arm, which is a smaller offshoot of it.
Answer Dude, no civilization before the 19th century had even the slightest notion of galaxies. The Mayans did not know that the Milky Way was an aggregate of stars revolving around a center. They simply did not have the technology for making such a determination.

Recently, ive been studying Ancient Sumer, the first human civilization, the creators first recorded language, and tied into this, while looking through the Sumerian creation story, i noticed descriptions of gods (Annunakki), coming down from the heavens (space), mating with, and teaching humans.

After looking at all of this, i began studying the Annunakki. Then coincidentally, a week or so later, a program on HISTORY channel came on, about ‘Ancient Aliens’ and all of the civilizations of ancient times have some reference to serpentine or reptilian gods interacting with man, and the story of Genesis, the Christian creation story itself is based off of, and VERY similar to that of the Sumerian, Indian, Japanese, Hopi, Mayan, and Dogan creation stories.

If you have heard of this, or studied about it, do you really believe that our “God”, our creator is a reptilian alien from outer space?

This story, the story of the Annunakki, seems to be the only one that makes ANY kind of sense to me.
